Kathleen or Kath, as we know her, is our knitting marvel here at the mill. Kath designs and knits for us and helps with all knitting and crochet and weaving questions! Spinner was designed by her, and she was inspired by the mill.
Here is her note: The yarn used in the prototype was created and spun by Greg, the spinner at Mountain Meadow Wool mill, Buffalo, Wyoming. Greg created a bulky yarn, a soft 2-ply that worked up into a plush fabric with a cozy drape in natural colors of grey, cream, and light brown. Size 15 needles are suggested for this project.
To showcase the yarn to best advantage, a simple pattern was created, with slipped stitches and an adjacent purl stitch, using a travelling stitch every fourth row, as the slipped stitches and purl columns form a stately spiral to the right edge. Inspired by the images of gears turning, bobbins spinning as sliver is spun into a twisted thread, this pattern reminds me of Greg and what he does so well every day.
