Create your own versatile neck gaiter that transforms to a hat

It can be a tube around your neck, keeping drafts and cold winds out. Cinch up the drawstring on one end, and it becomes a hat. And it just looks fun, with the cord cinched up, resembling a tassel. The cabled band is knit first as a strip and joined end to end. Stitches are picked up along one edge and knitting proceeds as a tube, finished off with a casing. Two-ply overdyed sport tweed yarn or natural grey tweed is available to mix and match. Two-ply sport weight Cody can be substituted for the project, if solid colors are preferred to a tweedy look.

Kathleen Buckley is the designer for this accessory. Kath, as we know her by, is our very own “in-house” knitting expert. Kath designs patterns and knits projects, many of which are inspired by Wyoming's beautiful landscapes. This project will hopefully fill a need for versatile, useful, and pleasing accessories to keep us warm in the outdoors.

2 skeins of MMW 2-ply sport Tweed in overdyed Bonfire and Fire(185 yds = 2 oz)
5 stitches per inch (on size US 5 needles)
Suggested Needle Size: US 4 and US 5, or size to give gauge (needles not included)
Knitting Pattern
Packed in the Mountain Meadow Wool Craft Bag

Alternate dyed skeins while knitting to distribute the color evenly
Hand wash by soaking in lukewarm water with a mild detergent
Let the fabric soak for 15 min, gently squeeze out excess moisture
Roll fabric between clean dry towels to remove moisture
Lay flat and shape to air dry
